5 Basics to a Green Lawn
To make a lawn green and healthy, here are the 5 basic essentials you need to get right:
Proper Watering
Water 3-4 times a week for 20-25 minutes each time.
Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation and disease risk.
Mowing Correctly
Keep blades sharp and never cut more than 1/3 of the grass height at a time.
Maintain an appropriate height for your grass type (usually 2.5–4 inches).
Keep the weeds out
Weeds can crowd out the grass fast, so best to get on top of it fast
Aeration and Soil Health
Aerate once a year (usually in fall or spring) to relieve compaction and improve nutrient uptake.
Your soil needs nutrients to feed your grass, which get used up each year
Fertilization
Apply balanced fertilizer regularly based on the season and grass type.
Nitrogen is key for greening—too little and the lawn yellows, too much can burn it.
