5 Basics to a Green Lawn

To make a lawn green and healthy, here are the 5 basic essentials you need to get right:

  1. Proper Watering

    • Water 3-4 times a week for 20-25 minutes each time.

    • Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation and disease risk.

  2. Mowing Correctly

    • Keep blades sharp and never cut more than 1/3 of the grass height at a time.

    • Maintain an appropriate height for your grass type (usually 2.5–4 inches).

  3. Keep the weeds out

    • Weeds can crowd out the grass fast, so best to get on top of it fast

  4. Aeration and Soil Health

    • Aerate once a year (usually in fall or spring) to relieve compaction and improve nutrient uptake.

    • Your soil needs nutrients to feed your grass, which get used up each year

  5. Fertilization

    • Apply balanced fertilizer regularly based on the season and grass type.

    • Nitrogen is key for greening—too little and the lawn yellows, too much can burn it.
